In this study, total fatty acid compositions and its seasonal variations of Vimba, Vimba vimba tenella in Egirdir Lake which is the second biggest freshwater lake in Turkey, were investigated by gas chromatographic method. Total 27 different fatty acids were determinated in the compositions of Vimba vimba tenella . Monounsaturated fatty acids (MUFAs) were found to be higher than saturated (SFA) and polyunsaturated (PUFAs) in all seasons. Oleic acid was the major MUFAs in all seasons (28.35-22.43% ). Palmitic acid was identified as the major SFA in four seasons. In the present study, 3/ 6 ratios were found 1.39;1.55;1.16;1.41 in spring, summer, autumn and winter, respectively.
Key Words: Vimba vimba tenella (Nordmann, 1840), fatty acid composition, freshwater fish, seasonal change, Egirdir Lake, Turkey.
