European Heart Journal, Thomas F. Lüscher, and new manuscripts

An article I wrote to describe and introduce the Anatolian Journal of Cardiology was published in the Cardiopulse section of the European Heart Journal (EHJ) issue dated July 7, 2020 (1). I send many thanks to EHJ's Editor-in-Chief, Prof. Dr. Thomas F. Lüscher for providing this opportunity. In addition, he will be joining the membership of the editorial board of our journal. This relationship with EHJ is a great source of pride and support. A photo was submitted with the article to present our editors, co-editors, and other staff to readers, but unfortunately, it could not be published due to a shortage of space. A photo of the team has been added to the end of this issue. Hopefully, readers will get to know all of those who contribute to our journal a bit better.

Immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) have been introduced into clinical practice as specific monoclonal antibodies that demonstrate significant anti-cancer activity through enhancement of T-cell mediated immune response against tumor cells. However, the expanding use of ICIs in clinical practice has revealed a variety of autoimmune-mediated adverse events, including acute myocarditis, possibly due to uncontrolled activation of cytotoxic T cells. Gündoğan M and Yalta K, from Turkey, review this topic elegantly.

The use of lung ultrasound has increased in the last 10 years, as it is a useful and easily repeatable tool for lung examination that can be administered bedside. Szabo et al., from Hungary, evaluate the technical and practical aspects of this method and how it can be used in cases of Corona-19. I would like to especially thank one of the authors, Alberta Varga, for submitting this valuable review to our journal.

In a scientific letter, Kundi et al., from Turkey, present data from one of the biggest hospitals in Ankara that illustrate how the Covid-19 outbreak affects the hospitalization of myocardial infarction patients. This is a big problem around the world. Subramanyam P and Palaniswamy SS, from India, report that a novel infusion technique using technetium-99m sestamibi demonstrated incremental viability detection in ischemic cardiomyopathy patients with severe left ventricular dysfunction. This could be a useful tool.

Kowalik et al., from Poland, describe “geriatric” systemic right ventricle in terms of the clinical profile, cardiac biomarkers, and echocardiography-derived function compared with younger patients with congenitally corrected transposition of the great arteries. I am very happy to see Piotr Hoffman as a senior author of this article.

Öztarhan et al., from Turkey, determine the power and accuracy of five scoring systems to predict high-risk Kawasaki patients in Turkey. Comparing risk scoring systems is quite challenging.

Özyüncü et al., from Turkey, examine whether there is a difference in the level of myocardial injury in primary angioplasty patients who are loaded with clopidogrel and subsequently switched to ticagrelor and those who were loaded with ticagrelor.

As always, you will find noteworthy case reports, letters, and e-page originals. I hope our readers will enjoy this issue of our journal and find it of interest and value.
