3 HISTORY
Ankara Haci Bayram Veli (AHBV) University has the advantage of being born from Gazi University, one of the earliest and biggest educational institutions in Turkey. Accordingly, Ankara Academy of Economics and Commercial Sciences also continues its activities with the same highly qualified academic staff and physical facilities since it was opened in 1955.
With nine faculties, three vocational schools, three colleges, and a conservatory, Ankara Hacı Bayram Veli University is Turkey's youngest but also the most experienced higher education institution.

NUMBER OF STUDENTS There are over 30 thousand students in a totality of 72 departments at AHBV University providing education and training. AHBV University is one of the biggest social sciences universities in Turkey with a student population of 23 thousand students in associate and undergraduate degrees and over 7 thousand students in postgraduate and doctoral programs. There are also over 750 foreign students in the university from various countries and nationalities.

LIFE AT AHBV
AHBV is situated at various privileged districts of Ankara. The faculties located in Beşevler, Gölbaşı, Polatlı, and Oran are very close to the subway stations and public transportation, which is of great importance in terms of transportation in the city.
Moreover, the fact that the campuses are very close to shopping centers is a convenience for the students of AHBV University.
The University provides its students with all the possibilities related to a modern city life ranging from entertainment to culture and arts as well as shopping and nutrition.

Having situated in the city center, AHBV University provides a great deal of facilities to our students and staff.
The faculties located at Beşevler, Gölbaşı, Polatlı, and Oran as close districts to subways stations and public transportation conducted through buses and shuttles carry great importance in terms of transportation in the city.

DORMITORY OPPORTUNITIES
Many of the dormitories of the Institution for Higher Education Student Loans and Dormitories and the private dormitories are very close to our university.

These groups increase the number of their members at the beginning of every fiscal year and present their activities in and outside of the university throughout the year.
9 SPORTS ACTIVITIES
Gölbaşı Sports Centers
The “Sports Center” established in Gölbaşı campus of AHBV University provides service to the AHBV students who desire to be away from the city and in touch with nature. The center consists of “basketball, volleyball and tennis courts as well as a synthetic pitch”.
Fitness
Giving importance to sporting activities for mental and physical development, AHBV University has opened a “fitness sauna center” for the use of the students.
The fitness center consists of two ports with a cardio, bodybuilding and aerobics-
gymnastics hall and a massage room. AHBV students who want to do sports can
benefit from the fitness and sauna centers at AHBV Sports Center or the fitness
and sauna center within the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences.
COUNSELING SERVICES
Most important counseling services are provided to AHBV University students under the Department of Health, Culture, and Sports.
Student Counselling Center
The major objective of the center is to provide students with guidance, motivation, and encouragement in studies. With this objective, the center assists AHBV students with all sorts of problems and difficulties on academic, psychological, social and cultural issues.
Youth Counselling Center
This is a center where studies are carried out to find answers on the information and service needs of the students on issues like the psycho-social development, drug addiction, reproduction, and sexual health.
Counselling Center for Disabled Students
The Counseling Center for Disabled Students has been established under the Department of Health, Culture and Sports of AHBV University.
The aim of the unit is to determine the needs of the disabled students in academic, administrative, physical, psychological and social subjects and to determine what needs to be done in order to meet the necessities, plan, apply, develop and evaluate the study results.
CAREER SERVICES
The career services in AHBV University are run by the centers that every faculty establishes within itself (Student Career Center-Kar-Yön).
The objectives of these organizations operating in cooperation with faculty members, business representatives and students can be stated as:

EUROPEAN UNION EDUCATION AND YOUTH PROGRAMS
AHBV University is in cooperation with the programs of the European Union Commission by aiming to develop mutual recognition between countries and making better use of the current education potentials. These programs, which provide students with the chance to receive a part of their education abroad as well as with the contribution to their foreign language skills and the support for the students to attain positive values after their graduation, have been designed according to different expectations and interests.
Students wishing to study abroad can choose the program that suits them best, and also apply to the International Relations Office and request further information.
LIFE LONG LEARNING PROGRAMME (LLLP)
The general aim of the LLLP is to provide a contribution to the development of the information community. Creating more qualified job opportunities, developing social integrity, protecting the environment for future generations and especially ensuring a turn to a quality reference in the whole world is aimed. Studies are conducted to strengthen the mutual change, cooperation and mobility between the education and teaching systems in the community.

ERASMUS
The Erasmus program is a program consisting of student and staff exchange and central projects. The program has been divided into two parts as “Student Mobility and Staff Mobility”
- Student Mobility has two subtitles as “Study and Internship Mobility”.
- Staff mobility operate under two headings; “Lecturing and Staff Training”
Apart from these programs, “National Agency Central Projects” and “Commission-Centered Projects” also take place under the Erasmus program.
The aim of the Erasmus program is to increase the higher education quality in Europe and to strengthen the European dimension.
In accordance with this aim, the Erasmus program encourages international cooperation between universities, provides student and staff exchange in Europe and contributes to the development of transparency and the academic recognition of the studies and degrees received within the European Union countries.
Students from various countries within Europe have chosen AHBV University for the 2008 fall semester under this program. Every year, a large number of students from AHBV University have gone to various countries in Europe for study and internship purposes. These numbers are aimed to increase every fiscal term in terms of both quantity and quality.
CAMPUS EUROPAE
Campus Europae is a program which aims to develop the understanding of being a European in students and moves student exchange to the graduate and postgraduate levels. The main objective of Campus Europae is to provide the students with the experience of feeling “the unity in variety” in Europe during their university education, and while doing this, it aims to unite scientific and academic sufficiency with international employment and the European identity. The program provides the university students to spend each year in two different countries, two different universities, two different languages throughout their graduate and postgraduate education.

The students are able to get over the exhaustion and stress caused by the whole year through the Spring Festivals held in the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences every year. There are a student council and a large number of research groups. Atatürkist Ideology Group, Turkish Culture Group, Academy Rock Group, Theatre Academy Club, Academy Foreign Trade, Career Guidance Club and Stock Market Center are some of them. The sports center, which is in the faculty campus, provides service with a sauna and a fitness hall with a total capacity of 600 people. There is a table tennis room in the faculty.

Faculty of Art and Design, Graduates of the Department of Fashion Design can work as fashion designer (stylist), model expert (modelist), production planning , quality control officer in the sector or they can open individual workplaces and perform customized model design and production.They can also serve as fashion editor and fashion photography for fashion magazines, fashion marketer and visual exhibitor for the merchandising sector, costume designer or costume supervisor in the stage and media sector, private and public.
Graduates of the Department of Textile Design who are trained in this programme can be employed in public and private institutions as designers or consultants in textile companies in the departments of weaving, knitting, printing and also in the units of research and development, customer representation and in the units of traditional weaving, knitting, printing and figures.
Graduates of the Department of Graphic Design can work as graphic designers in the agencies of advertisement and graphics,

Graduates of the Department of Handicrafts who are educated in this programme can be employed in the relevant sectors as the designers of embroidery, handicrafts, jewelry, leather accessories, toys and dolls. They can be employed in public and private institutions in Research and Development Units, and they can also work as customer representatives.
Graduates of the Department of Traditional Turkish Arts will be able to work in official and private institutions, design agencies, museums and libraries, promotion sector, archives, conservation and restoration, private and public education institutions as well as work as designers in their own workshops or private workshops.
Graduates of the Department of Visual Arts will be able to work with the titles of Visual Arts designer, Curator, Art Director, Art Consultant, Art organizer, in major companies and holdings, media organs, art galleries, art fairs and auction organizations, design, promotion and organization organizations, private and official art schools.
Graduates of the Department of Jewellery Design can open their own workshops as a studio jeweller.
In the jewelry sector, they can assume responsibility in different fields and levels of production. Students who complete academic studies in their own fields or in disciplines related to art and design can be appointed as academicians in higher education institutions and those who meet the conditions stipulated by the Ministry of National Education can become teachers in vocational high schools in the relevant departments of the field.

There are a tennis, volleyball, and a basketball courts in the campus apart from the extra basketball and volleyball courts in the faculty garden of Faculty of Tourism for the students to be able to enjoy their free time. Various cultural and artistic activities such as concerts, exhibitions, demonstrations, and conferences are organized throughout the year by the student groups of the faculty.
Employment Opportunities after Graduation
Graduates of the programs of Tourism Management can work in tourism and hotel vocational high schools and departments related to tourism in multi-program high schools as well as being able to work as mid and high level administrators in accommodation business (hotel, holiday camp, motel, etc.) whose numbers are increasing by the day. Moreover, they also have the right to become a Licensed Tourist Guide at the Ministry of Culture and Tourism.

Requirements for the Acceptance of Foreign Students to Master’s and PhD Programs
For Applicants of Master’s Programs:
- Taking exams such as Turkish Academic Higher Education Exam (ALES), GRE, GMAT, and obtain the adequate grades determined by the Institute.
- Proving the equivalence of graduate diplomas issued by higher education institutions outside Turkey.
- Having a minimum GPA of 70 out of 100 or CC in the letter system.
For Applicants of PhD Programs:
- Taking exams such as Turkish Academic Higher Education Exam (ALES), GRE, GMAT, and obtain the adequate grades determined by the Institute.
- Having a minimum GPA of 70 out of 100 or CC in the letter system.
- Scoring at least 55 points in Turkish Council of Higher Education Foreign Language Exams (YÖKDIL or YDS or an equivalent score in other exams accepted by the inter-university committee).
- Presenting TÖMER document indicating the required level of Turkish to be able to follow the programs.

FOREIGN STUDENTS
Placements of foreign students and students applying by an exam other than OSYS (Student Selection and Placement Examination) to the postgraduate programs of AHBV University are done based on the exam results held bythe Student Selection and Placement Center of the Council of Higher Education.
These examinations are listed below
Higher Education Entrance Examination for the Children of Those Working Abroad (YÇS); an examination which the students who have completed their secondary education in the high schools or equivalent vocational colleges in countries where their parents live due to their jobs or duties need to take, and the placements of which will be made by the Student Selection and Placement Center of the Council of Higher Education (YÖK ÖSYM). Placements based on the results of this exam are made by the Student Selection and Placement Center of the Council of Higher Education (YÖK ÖSYM).
YÖK Exam for Turkic Republics, Turkish and Relative Communities (TCS); placements based on the results of this examination are made by the Student Selection and Placement Center of the Council of Higher Education (YÖK ÖSYM).
AHBV University DILMER is an institute which teaches Turkish to foreign students who desire to participate in higher education in Turkey.
Foreign students who have come with a scholarship from the Ministry of National Education under the dual agreements and foreign students who are in Turkey through their own meanscan study in DILMER. Students with a National Education scholarship take the “Exam for Turkic Republics, Turkish and Relative Communities (TCS)” which is held in June of each year after completing the Turkish language education at DILMER.
Students who are successful at this examination are placed to the universities in Turkey by ÖSYM. The students who have come to Turkey through their own means, on the other hand, participate in “Exam for Foreign Students (YÖS)” which is held in April every year and gain the right to study in a Turkish university based on the results of this examination. Apart from these students, those who want to carry outtheir graduate studies in the universities in Turkey through their own means should take “Turkish Proficiency Exams” held by DILMER.
AHBV University DILMER organizes language preparation classesfor students who come to Turkey by “Erasmus” or
“Campus Europea” and other student exchange programs.
Apart from all these student groups; organizing courses on general or business Turkish for individuals or groups who intend to learn Turkish is among the teaching activities of DILMER.
