5.2.2. Sayı Duyusu İle İlgili Yapılabilecek Araştırmalara Yönelik Öneriler

Sayı duyusu kavramı çok erken yaşlarda geliştirilmeye başlanması gereken bir beceridir. Birçok ülkede de sayı duyusu çalışmalarının okul öncesi ve ilkokul dönemlerinden başladığı görülür (Jordan, Glutting & Ramineni; 2008; Locuniak &

Jordan, 2008; Baroody, Eiland & Thompson, 2009) Sayı duyusunun gelişimine yönelik olarak yapılan çalışmalar ülkemizde de farklı sınıf seviyelerinde genişletilebilir. Özellikle sayılarla ilgili anlamlandırmanın başladığı erken çocukluk ve ilkokul düzeylerinde çalışmalar yapılabilir.

Öğrencilerin sayı duyularını belirlemek için yapılan kâğıt-kalem testleri onların sayı duyularının ölçüme dayalı bir karşılığını vermektedir. Oysaki öğrencilerin sayı duyuları nitel bir çalışma ile araştırıldığında, öğrencilerin sayı duyusu kullanıp kullanmadıkları, sayı duyularını nasıl kullandıkları, hangi sayı duyusu bileşenini nasıl kullandıkları hakkında daha detaylı bilgiye sahip olunabilir. Bu anlamda öğrencilerin sayı duyuları görüşme yoluyla ayrıntılı olarak incelenebilir.

Bu çalışma matematik dersi öğretim programındaki sayılar öğrenme alanı ile sınırlandırılmıştır. Sayı duyusu etkinliklerinin hazırlanıp uygulandığı benzer çalışmalar cebir, ölçme, geometri gibi farklı öğrenme alanları için de hazırlanıp sayı duyusu etkinliklerinin bu alanlara nasıl bir katkı sağlayacağı araştırılabilir.

Sayı duyusunun geliştirilmesi için kullanılan kaynakların da önemli olduğu söylenebilir. Bu nedenle mevcut matematik dersi kitaplarının sayı duyusu

bakımından incelenmesi ve değerlendirilmesi de araştırmacılar için bir öneri olarak sunulabilir. Böylelikle kitapların revizyonuna katkı sağlanıp, yeni yazılacak kitaplar için sayı duyusunun gelişimini destekleyecek kriterler oluşturulabilir.
